Allegory হলো এমন এক সাহিত্যধারা যেখানে গল্প, চরিত্র ও ঘটনা সরাসরি অর্থের বাইরে গিয়ে প্রতীকী অর্থ বহন করে। অর্থাৎ Allegory-এর দুটি স্তর থাকে— literal meaning এবং symbolic meaning। John Bunyan-এর The Pilgrim’s Progress একটি খ্রিস্টীয় allegory যেখানে Christian-এর যাত্রা মানুষের আত্মার মুক্তির প্রতীক। Edmund Spenser-এর The Faerie Queene রাজনৈতিক ও নৈতিক Allegory।
