Dramatic Monologue হল এক ধরনের কবিতা যেখানে একজন মাত্র বক্তা নীরব শ্রোতার উদ্দেশ্যে কথা বলে। এর বৈশিষ্ট্য হলো single speaker, silent listener, abrupt beginning, colloquial language ইত্যাদি। Robert Browning (1812–1889) এই ধারার প্রকৃত রূপদাতা এবং তাঁকে “Father of Dramatic Monologue” বলা হয়। তাঁর “My Last Duchess,” “Porphyria’s Lover,” এবং “Fra Lippo Lippi” হলো এই ধারার অসাধারণ উদাহরণ। Browning এর কাজের মাধ্যমে Dramatic Monologue ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে স্বতন্ত্র স্থান পায়। এখানে কবি নিজেকে সরাসরি প্রকাশ করেন না বরং চরিত্রের মুখ দিয়ে জীবন, দোষ, গুণ এবং সামাজিক প্রেক্ষাপট তুলে ধরেন। Dramatic Monologue পাঠকের সামনে চরিত্রের অন্তর্দৃষ্টি ও মানসিক জটিলতা উন্মোচন করে। এই জন্য Browning এর অবদান অনস্বীকার্য।
