কবিতায় আলবাট্রসকে মেরিনারের ঘাড়ে ঝুলানো হয়। এটি তার অপরাধ ও দোষবোধের প্রতীক। পাখি হত্যা করার পর তার ওপর মানসিক ও আত্মিক শাস্তি এসে পড়ে। মেরিনার প্রতিনিয়ত তার ভুলের স্মরণে কষ্ট পায়।

Coleridge এখানে দেখিয়েছেন যে, প্রকৃতির প্রতি অবজ্ঞা এবং অহংকার মানুষের জীবনে স্থায়ী প্রভাব ফেলতে পারে। আলবাট্রস প্রতীকী হয়ে দাঁড়ায়—প্রকৃতির প্রতি শ্রদ্ধার অভাবের ফলস্বরূপ নৈতিক ও আধ্যাত্মিক বোঝা।

Mount Abora সম্ভবত Abyssinian (ইথিওপিয়া) থেকে অনুপ্রাণিত। এখানে এটি একটি পৌরাণিক বা কল্পিত পর্বত, যা শিল্প ও সংগীতের উৎসকে নির্দেশ করে। Abyssinian maid যেই গান গাইছিল, তার বিষয় ছিল Mount Abora। তাই এটি pure imagination–এর প্রতীক। এটি বোঝায় যে কবিতা ও সংগীত কল্পনাকে এমন স্থানে নিয়ে যায়, যা বাস্তব নয়, বরং রহস্যময় ও অলৌকিক।
