Coleridge স্মরণ করেন, একসময় তিনি দুঃখের মাঝেও কল্পনা থেকে আনন্দ পেতেন। কিন্তু এখন দুঃখ তার কল্পনাশক্তি ম্লান করে দিয়েছে। তিনি বলেন—“each visitation suspends what nature gave me at my birth, / My shaping spirit of Imagination।” অর্থাৎ তিনি এখন আর আনন্দ বা সৃষ্টিশীলতা অনুভব করতে পারেন না।

একই শব্দ বারবার ব্যবহারের ফলে এটি repetition। চারপাশে পানি থেকেও পান করার উপায় না থাকা irony তৈরি করে।
