William Shakespeare রচিত বিখ্যাত tragedy সমূহের মধ্যে অন্যতম হলো Othello । Othello নাটকের প্রধান রচিত্র-Othello ছিলের ভেনিসের সেনাপতি। Othello ছিলেন একজন Moor (উত্তর-পশ্চিম আফ্রিকার আরব ও বার্বার জাতির মিশ্রণ থেকে উদ্ভূত জনগোষ্ঠী)। Othello নিজ স্ত্রী Desdemona-কে সন্দেহপূর্বক হত্যা করে এবং পরবর্তীতে নিজের ভুল বুঝতে পেরে বুকে ছুরি বসিয়ে আত্মহত্যা করে; এর মাধ্যমেই নাটকটি tragedy রূপ লাভ করে।

হ্যামলেট পলোনিয়াসকে হত্যা করেন ভুলবশত, কারণ তিনি তাকে ক্লডিয়াস মনে করেন। পলোনিয়াস রান্নাঘরের আড়ালে লুকিয়ে ছিলেন এবং হ্যামলেট তাত্ক্ষণিক প্রতিক্রিয়ায় তাকে হত্যা করেন।

এই ভুল সিদ্ধান্ত নাটকের ট্র্যাজেডি ও সংঘাত বাড়ায়। আফেলিয়ার মানসিক ভাঙন এবং পরিবারের দ্বন্দ্ব এই ঘটনার মাধ্যমে গভীর হয়। শেক্সপিয়ার দেখিয়েছেন কিভাবে ভুল বোঝাবুঝি ট্র্যাজেডি সৃষ্টি করে।

হ্যামলেটের নৈতিক দ্বন্দ্বও এই ঘটনার সঙ্গে যুক্ত। ফলস্বরূপ, পলোনিয়াসের মৃত্যু নাটকের কেন্দ্রীয় ঘটনা হিসেবে কাজ করে।
