'Gerontion' কবিতাটি লিখেছেন T. S. Eliot

এই কবিতায় যুদ্ধকে একটি প্রধান বিষয় হিসেবে দেখানো হয়েছে। এর পাশাপাশি ধর্ম ও রাজনৈতিক পরিবর্তনের কথাও উঠে এসেছে।
এই কবিতায় ১৯১৯ সালের বিভিন্ন ঘটনার প্রভাব রয়েছে এবং Eliot তাঁর নিজস্ব দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি থেকে যুদ্ধ, ধর্ম ও রাজনীতিকে জটিলভাবে তুলে ধরেছেন।
এই কবিতাটি আটটি স্তবকে (stanza) বিভক্ত, তবে প্রতিটি স্তবকে পঙ্‌ক্তির সংখ্যা সমান নয়।

• T. S. Eliot বিংশ শতাব্দীর একজন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সাহিত্যিক হিসেবে পরিচিত।
তিনি ১৯৪৮ সালে সাহিত্যে নোবেল পুরস্কার লাভ করেন।

The Modern Period: 

• 1901 থেকে 1939 পর্যন্ত সময়কালকে ইংরেজী সাহিত্যে the Modern Age হিসেবে ধরা হয়ে থাকে।
• 1901 সালে Queen Victoria এর মৃত্যুর মধ্য দিয়ে এই যুগ এর সুচনা হয় এবং 1939 এ দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের সূচনার মধ্য দিয়ে এই যুগ এর সমাপ্তি হয়।
• Modernism is more than a literary phenomenon.
• It includes many art forms that flourished in European countries including England.
