ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে Romantic Age (1798-1832)-কে বলা হয় The Golden Age of Lyric/Age of Revolution। তবে, এ Romantic Age-এর পেছনে অনুপ্রেরণা ও অনুসঙ্গ হচ্ছে ফরাসি বিপ্লব (1789-99)। এ যুগের বেশিরভাগ কবি ও লেখকগণ ফরাসি বিপ্লবের ঘটনাবলি ও বিপ্লবের ধারণাকে কল্পনায় নিয়ে সাহিত্যচর্চায় অনুপ্রাণিত হয়েছিলেন। ১৭৯৮ সালে William Wordsworth এবং S.T. Coleridge এর যৌথ কবিতা সংকলন 'Lyrical Ballads' প্রকাশের মাধ্যমে এ যুগের সূচনা হয়।
