• নাটকে ব্রিটেনের রাজা Cymbeline এর কন্যা Imogen নিম্নবংশীয় Posthumus Leonatus এর সঙ্গে গোপনে বিবাহবন্ধনে আবদ্ধ হয়। রাজা এই বিয়ে মেনে না নিয়ে Posthumusকে নির্বাসনে পাঠান।

• নির্বাসনে থাকা Posthumus, Imogen এর চরিত্র নিয়ে Iachimo এর সঙ্গে বাজি ধরে, যে Imogen কে প্রলুব্ধ করতে ব্যর্থ হয়। মিথ্যা প্রমাণ দিয়ে Iachimo, Posthumusকে বিভ্রান্ত করে। Posthumus রেগে Imogenকে হত্যা করতে নির্দেশ দেয়, কিন্তু Imogen পুরুষ বেশ ধারণ করে পালিয়ে যায়। রাজা Cymbeline er দ্বিতীয় স্ত্রী চায় তার ছেলে Cloten কে Imogen এর স্বামী বানাতে, কিন্তু cloten, Imogen কে খুঁজতে বের হয় এবং নিহত হয়।
