Gerund Phrase – Example and Explanation

Noun Phrase:

• A noun phrase is a group of words that functions as a noun or pronoun in a sentence.

• It can be modified by adjectives.

Three Types of Noun Phrases:

1. Appositive Phrase:

   • Renames another noun in the sentence, often set off by commas

   • Example: Mr. Rahman, my favorite English teacher, is doing this assignment for me.

2. Gerund Phrase:

   • Starts with a gerund (verb + -ing) and acts as a noun

   • Example: Traveling to new places broadens your perspective.

3. Infinitive Phrase:

   • Begins with an infinitive (to + verb) and includes modifiers

   • Example: His dream is to travel the world.

Bangla meaning: কোনো কিছুর উপর নির্ভরশীল বা তার ফলে সৃষ্ট। 

Example:

- Differences in health outcomes are often said to be a function of socioeconomic disparity.

‘Blue blood’ একটি ইংরেজি বাগধারা, যা সাধারণত উচ্চবংশীয় বা অভিজাত বংশের মানুষ বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়। এই শব্দগুচ্ছের মাধ্যমে বোঝানো হয় এমন ব্যক্তি, যার পরিবার দীর্ঘদিন ধরে ধন-সম্পদ, প্রভাব, এবং সামাজিক মর্যাদায় সুপ্রতিষ্ঠিত। শব্দটি মূলত ঐতিহাসিকভাবে স্প্যানিশ বাক্যাংশ “sangre azul” থেকে এসেছে, যার অর্থও একই—অভিজাত বংশোদ্ভূত রক্ত।

এই অর্থকে স্পষ্টভাবে বোঝানোর জন্য নিচের তথ্যগুলো উল্লেখযোগ্য—

• Blue blood বলতে বোঝানো হয় এমন কাউকে, যিনি উচ্চবংশে জন্মেছেন বা সমাজের অভিজাত শ্রেণির সদস্য।

• ইংরেজি সাহিত্য ও কথ্য ভাষায় এটি এমন ব্যক্তিকে বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়, যার পারিবারিক ঐতিহ্য, ধনসম্পদ বা বংশীয় মর্যাদা রয়েছে। উদাহরণস্বরূপ—“He comes from blue blood” মানে “সে অভিজাত বংশে জন্মেছে।”

অন্য বিকল্পগুলো ভুল কারণ—
ক) fresh blood মানে নতুন বা তরুণ সদস্য, যেমন কোনো দল বা প্রতিষ্ঠানে নতুন লোক।
গ) scoundrel মানে দুষ্ট বা প্রতারক ব্যক্তি।
ঘ) none এখানে প্রযোজ্য নয়, কারণ সঠিক উত্তরটি ইতিমধ্যেই দেওয়া হয়েছে।

অতএব, ‘Blue blood’ শব্দগুচ্ছের অর্থ হলো aristocratic birth বা উচ্চবংশীয় জন্ম।
