Solution:
P's 1 day's work = 1/(x + 3) part
Q's 1 day's work = 1/(x + 12) part
and (P + Q)'s 1 day's work = 1/x

ATQ,
1/(x + 3) + 1/(x + 12) = 1/x
⇒ (x + 12 + x + 3)/(x + 3)(x + 12) = 1/x
⇒ (2x + 15)/(x2 + 15x + 36) = 1/x
⇒ 2x2 + 15x = x2 + 15x + 36
⇒ 2x2 + 15x - x2 - 15x = 36
⇒ x2 = 36
∴ x = 6

Question: X, Y, and Z are hired to complete a project for Tk. 6900. X and Y together complete 17/25 of the work, and Y and Z together complete 13/25 of the work. What is the wage of Y in Taka?

Solution:
X + Y = 17/25
Y + Z = 13/25

অতএব,
X + Y + Y + Z = (17/25) + (13/25)
= 30/25

যেখানে, X + Y + Z = 1 (সম্পূর্ণ কাজ)

এখন,
(X + Y + Z + Y) - (X + Y + Z) = 30/25 - 1
∴ Y = 5/25 = 1/5

∴ Y এর বেতন = (1/5) × 6900 = Tk. 1380

Question: Two pipes, A and B, can fill a tank in 37.5 minutes and 45 minutes. If both pipes are open, after how many minutes should pipe B be closed to fill the tank in half an hour?

Solution:
নল A দ্বারা 37.5 মিনিটে পূর্ণ হয় 1 অংশ
∴ 1 মিনিটে পূর্ণ হয় = (1/37.5) অংশ
∴ 30 মিনিটে পূর্ণ হয় = 30/37.5 = 300/375 = 4/5 অংশ 

∴ পূর্ণ হওয়ার বাকি থাকে = 1 - (4/5)
= (5 - 4)/5
= 1/5 অংশ 

B নল দ্বারা ,
1 অংশ পূর্ণ হতে সময় লাগে = 45 মিনিট
∴ 1/5 অংশ পূর্ণ হতে সময় লাগে = 45 × (1/5) = 9 মিনিট 
 
 ∴ B নলটি 9 মিনিট পর বন্ধ করলে  ট্যাংকটি 30 মিনিটে পূর্ণ হবে। 

Shortcut:
(30/37.5) + (x/45) = 1 (whole)
⇒ 0.8 + (x/45) = 1
⇒ x/45 = 1 - 0.8 = 0.2
⇒ x = 0.2 × 45 = 9
