- কবিতাটি ১৮২০ সালে প্রকাশিত হয়।

- Written shortly before the poet died, the poem is a celebration of autumn blended with an awareness of the passing of summer and of life’s ephemerality.

কবিতার শুরুতেই কিটস বলেন তাঁর হৃদয় ব্যথায় ভরে গেছে এবং তিনি যেন হেমলক খেয়েছেন বা আফিম খেয়ে অসাড় হয়ে আছেন। নাইটিঙ্গেলের গান তাঁকে এক ধরনের অচেতনতার দিকে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে।

পুরো কবিতাটি প্রার্থনামূলক ও ভক্তিমূলক। কিটস একদিকে সাইকিকে অবহেলিত দেবী হিসেবে আক্ষেপ করেন, অন্যদিকে নিজেকে তাঁর পুরোহিত বানান। তাঁর কল্পনা ও অন্তর্গত ভক্তি মিলে এক ধরনের আধ্যাত্মিক সুর সৃষ্টি করে, যা কবিতার মূল আবহ।
