‘The wind is quite strong.’ এখানে ‘quite’ একটি Adverb of degree। এটি বলছে যে কোনো কিছুর মাত্রা বা তীব্রতা কতখানি।

Adverb of degree:

• কতোখানি বা কোন মাত্রায় কিছু ঘটে তা বোঝায়।

• উদাহরণ: almost, quite, very, much, fully, partly, wholly, completely, strongly, totally, entirely, deeply, greatly, poorly, half, enough, somewhat, altogether, too, little, a little, rather

Adverb:

• এমন একটি শব্দ যা verb (ক্রিয়া), adjective (বিশেষণ) বা অন্য adverb (ক্রিয়া বিশেষণ)-কে modify বা বিশেষিত করে।

Adverb of manner:

• কোনো কাজ বা ঘটনা কিভাবে হয় তা বোঝায়।

• উদাহরণ: sadly, softly, steadily, slowly, soundly, swiftly, simply, suddenly, carefully, carelessly, easily, quickly, possibly, probably, luckily, fortunately, unfortunately, naturally, rightly, urgently, wrongly

Adverb of frequency:

• কোনো কাজ কতবার বা কত সময় অন্তর অন্তর হয় তা বোঝায়।

• উদাহরণ: always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never

Metaphor:

• A metaphor is an implicit or direct comparison between two unlike things.

• It describes one thing as being another, highlighting some shared quality, without using “like” or “as.”

• Bangla: যখন কোনো বাক্যে দুটি ভিন্ন বা বিজাতীয় জিনিসের মাঝে পরোক্ষভাবে বা রূপকার্থে তুলনা করা হয়।

Examples of Metaphor:

• "Life is but a walking shadow."

• "She's all states, and all princes, I."

• "Revenge is a wild justice."

• "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players."

Other Figures of Speech:

1. Simile

• A simile explicitly compares two unlike entities using “like” or “as.”

• Example: Her words are as sweet as honey.

• Bangla: সুস্পষ্ট তুলনামূলক, উপমা।

2. Allusion

• An allusion is an indirect reference to another work, historical or mythical person, or event.

• Example: The winged boy I knew, But who wast thou, O happy, happy dove? (Keats: "Ode to Psyche")

• Bangla: কোনো বিখ্যাত ব্যক্তি বা ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনাকে পরোক্ষভাবে উল্লেখ করা।

3. Personification

• Giving lifeless objects or abstract ideas human-like qualities.

• Example: The sun smiled down on us.

• Bangla: নির্জীব বা জড় বস্তুকে ব্যক্তিরূপে প্রয়োগ করা।

Passive Voice-এর ব্যতিক্রমধর্মী ব্যবহার

মৌলিক নিয়ম: সাধারণত Passive Voice তৈরি করার জন্য আমরা Subject–Verb–Object কাঠামো অনুসরণ করি। কিন্তু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে, বিশেষভাবে কিছু Adjective বা বিশেষ বাক্যরূপের সঙ্গে সাধারণ নিয়ম প্রযোজ্য হয় না।

মুখ্য বিষয়:

• এমন বাক্যগুলোকে Passive Voice-এ রূপান্তর করতে হলে ভাবার্থ অনুযায়ী ভাবতে হয়, শুধুমাত্র কাঠামো অনুসরণ করলেই হবে না।

• উদাহরণ:

  ❌ This is impossible to be done.

  • superficially সঠিক মনে হলেও, এটি ইংরেজি নিয়ম অনুযায়ী ভুল।

  • কারণ Adjective (যেমন: impossible) এর পরে Passive infinitive “to be done” ব্যবহার করা যায় না।

সঠিক রূপ:

✅ This can't be done.

উপসংহার:
যখন Adjective-এর সঙ্গে Passive Voice ব্যবহার করতে হয়, তখন সরাসরি infinitive ব্যবহার না করে ‘can’t be + past participle’ বা উপযুক্ত ভাবার্থ অনুসারে পরিবর্তিত রূপ ব্যবহার করা উচিত।
