  • এই verbs-এর পরে যদি complement থাকে, তবে passive করার নিয়ম আছে।

• Passive করার দুইটি পদ্ধতি:

  1. Active voice-এর subject কে passive voice-এর subject হিসেবে রাখা হয় + tense অনুযায়ী auxiliary verb বসানো হয় + complement বসানো হয় + when + প্রথম subject অনুযায়ী it/they বসানো হয় + tense অনুযায়ী auxiliary verb + মূল verb-এর past participle

     • উদাহরণ:

       • Active: The cake tastes delicious.

       • Passive: The cake is delicious when it is tasted.

  2. Active voice-এর subject কে passive voice-এর subject হিসেবে রাখা হয় + tense অনুযায়ী auxiliary verb বসানো হয় + মূল verb-এর past participle + complement বসানো হয়

     • উদাহরণ:

       • Active: The book reads difficult.

       • Passive: The book is read difficult.

• সাধারণ Quasi Passive structure:

  • Subject + be verb + complement + when (if) + it/they + be verb + V3

• ভুল বা awkward ব্যবহার:

  • ক) He made a conspicuous effort to remain silent.

    • এখানে “conspicuous” ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে “effort to remain silent”-এর সাথে, যা স্ববিরোধী মনে হতে পারে

    • নীরবতার চেষ্টা সাধারণত দৃশ্যমান নয়; যদি তা এতটা নজরকাড়া হয়, তবে স্বাভাবিক নীরবতা নয়

    • এর পরিবর্তে “deliberate” বা “noticeable” effort বলা যেতে পারত, কারণ “conspicuous” এখানে কিছুটা জোরপূর্বক বা অপ্রাকৃতিক মনে হয়

উপন্যাসের কেন্দ্রীয় চরিত্র হলো Heathcliff, একজন এতিম বালক। সে অন্যদের আশ্রয়ে থাকে এবং পরবর্তীতে আশ্রয়দাতার কন্যা Catherine Earnshaw-এর সঙ্গে গভীর মানসিক মিলন ঘটে, দুইজন একে অপরকে ভালোবেসে ফেলে। কিন্তু Catherine অন্যত্র বিয়ে করলে Heathcliff অনিশ্চিত হয়ে যায়। ফিরে আসার পর সে অঢেল অর্থের মালিক হয়ে ওঠে। কাহিনীর এ পর্যায়ে সে প্রাক্তন প্রেমিকা Catherine-এর পরিবারের সাথে সম্পর্কিত হয়ে সম্পত্তির লোভে বিয়ে করার চেষ্টা করে। পরবর্তীতে বিয়েটি ভেঙে যায়, Catherine মারা যায় এবং তার ভাই Hindleyও মৃত্যুবরণ করে। তবে তাদের সন্তানরা বড় হতে থাকে এবং Heathcliff-এর সন্তানও তাদের সঙ্গে যোগ দেয়। এইভাবে কাহিনী এক প্রজন্ম থেকে পরের প্রজন্মের মধ্যে এগিয়ে চলে।
