Question: The ratio of the present ages of two friends is 3 : 5. After 7 years, the ratio becomes 2 : 3. What will be the ratio of their ages after 10 years?

Solution:
Let
The present age of the friend1 = 3x
The present age of the friend2 = 5x

After 7 years, their ages will be,
⇒ (3x + 7)/(5x + 7) = 2/3
 ⇒ 10x + 14 = 9x + 21
 ⇒ 10x - 9x = 21 - 14
∴ x = 7

Present age of friend= 3x = 21 years
Present age of friend= 5x = 35 years

Now, after 10 years,
friend1 age = 21 + 10 = 31 years
friend2 age = 35 + 10 = 45 years

∴ The ratio of their ages after 10 years,
= 31 : 45
