• Conjunction

• যে Part of Speech দুই বা ততোধিক Word, Phrase বা Clause-এর মধ্যে সংযোগ স্থাপন করে, তাকে Conjunction বলে।

Three Basic Types of Conjunctions:

1. Coordinating Conjunctions:

• যা সমমানের দুইটি Word, Phrase বা Clause-এর মধ্যে সংযোগ স্থাপন করে।

• অর্থাৎ, Coordinating Conjunctions সমান গুরুত্বসম্পন্ন দুটি Word, Phrase বা Clause যুক্ত করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Examples: and, or, but, nor ইত্যাদি।

2. Subordinating Conjunctions:

• যে Conjunction একটি Clause-এর শুরুতে বসে অন্য Clause-এর স্থান, কাল, ধরণ, মাত্রা, ইত্যাদি বুঝানোর জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়, তাকে Subordinating Conjunction বলে।

• অর্থাৎ, Subordinating Conjunctions একটি Clause অন্য Clause-এর ওপর নির্ভরশীল হলে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Examples: how, if, lest, after, although, as, because, before, even if, even though, once, since, unless, until, when, where, while ইত্যাদি।

3. Correlative Conjunctions:

• পরস্পর সম্পর্কযুক্ত জোড়ায় জোড়ায় ব্যবহৃত Conjunction গুলোই Correlative Conjunctions।

• অর্থাৎ, Correlative Conjunctions সবসময় জোড়ায় জোড়ায় ব্যবহৃত হয় এবং একই ধরনের Word বা Phrase যুক্ত করে।

• Examples: either…or, neither…nor, not only…but also, both…and, whether…or, as…as ইত্যাদি।

• "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread"  উক্তিটি প্রখ্যাত ইংরেজ কবি Alexander Pope-এর লেখা। এটি তাঁর ১৭১১ সালে প্রকাশিত "An Essay on Criticism" কবিতা থেকে নেওয়া হয়েছে। উক্তির মাধ্যমে Pope বোঝাতে চেয়েছেন যে মূর্খরা অবিবেচনাপূর্ণভাবে এমন কাজ বা পরিস্থিতিতে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ে, যেখানে জ্ঞানী ও বিচক্ষণরা সাবধানে পা ফেলে বা একেবারেই পা রাখেন না। এটি একটি গভীর প্রবাদ হয়ে উঠেছে যা আজও নানা প্রসঙ্গে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• An Essay on Criticism:
- "An Essay on Criticism'" হচ্ছে Alexander Pope-এর একটি didactic (শিক্ষামূলক) কবিতা, যা heroic couplets (দ্বিপদী ছন্দে) লেখা।
- এই কবিতাটি মূলত Horace-এর Ars Poetica থেকে অনুপ্রাণিত, তবে এ লেখকদের ধারাও বিদ্যমান।

• Alexander Pope:
- ইংরেজি সাহিত্যের সবচেয়ে উক্তিমূলক (epigrammatic) কবিদের একজন।
- ইংরেজি Augustan যুগের বিখ্যাত কবি ও ব্যঙ্গরচয়িতা।
- তাকে ‘Mock Heroic Poet’ বলে।
- Pope এর কবিতা প্রায়শই জটিল বিষয়বস্তু এবং সুরুচিপূর্ণ ভাষায় রচিত এবং তার কাজগুলো ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে ব্যাপক প্রভাব ফেলেছে।

• Alliteration হলো একধরনের সাহিত্যিক কৌশল যেখানে একই ধ্বনি বা বর্ণ একাধিক শব্দের শুরুতে পুনরাবৃত্তি হয়। উপরের চারটি বাক্যের মধ্যে ‘ঘ) She sells seashells by the seashore’ বাক্যটি alliteration এর উদাহরণ। এখানে ‘s’ ধ্বনি বার বার ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে যা বাক্যটিকে সুরেলা ও আকর্ষণীয় করে তোলে। অন্যদিকে, ‘ক) The bird flew away’ বাক্যে শব্দের শুরুতে একই ধ্বনি নেই, তাই এটি alliteration নয়। ‘খ) The cat sat on the mat’ এ কিছু শব্দের শেষাংশ মিলে গেলেও শুরুতে একই ধ্বনি নেই, তাই এটি alliteration নয়। ‘গ) The sun sets in the west’ বাক্যেও শুরুতে একই ধ্বনি নেই, তাই এটি alliteration নয়। তাই, ‘ঘ’ নম্বর বাক্যই সঠিক উদাহরণ।

• Alliteration (অনুপ্রাস):
- The repetition of a consonant at the beginning of two or more words or stressed syllables is called Alliteration.
- যখন পরস্পর সম্পর্কযুক্ত বা পাশাপাশি স্থাপিত শব্দের শুরুতে একই বর্ণ বা একই ধরনের উচ্চারণ থাকে তাকে অনুপ্রাস (Alliteration) বলে।
- এটি একটি সাহিত্যকৌশল, যেখানে কোনো শব্দের প্রথম ধ্বনি বা বর্ণ এক বা একাধিক পরবর্তী শব্দে পুনরাবৃত্তি হয়। এটি সাধারণত কবিতা বা গদ্যের শৈলীতে ব্যবহার করা হয় এবং এর মাধ্যমে সুর, ছন্দ এবং মানসিক প্রভাব তৈরি হয়।
- Alliteration শব্দ বা বাক্যাংশের ছন্দ ও সুর সৃষ্টি করে, যা পাঠক বা শ্রোতাদের মনোযোগ আকর্ষণ করতে সাহায্য করে।

'The fair breeze blew, the white foam flew,
The furrow followed free.'
- এখানে 'f' এবং 'b' দ্বারা শুরু হওয়া শব্দ পাশাপাশি বসেছে অর্থাৎ consonant sound এর repetition ঘটেছে।

2.
'Puffs, powders, patches, Bibles, billet-doux' is an example of alliteration.
Here 'p' has been repeated thrice and 'b' twice.
