সংজ্ঞা:
যে Clause-এ একটি Subject এবং একটি Finite Verb থাকা সত্ত্বেও পূর্ণ অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে না এবং অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করার জন্য Principal Clause-এর উপর নির্ভরশীল থাকে তাকে Subordinate Clause বলে।
Subordinate Clause-এর প্রকারভেদ:
Subordinate Clause সাধারণত তিন প্রকার—

Noun Clause → Principal Clause-এ Noun-এর কাজ করে।

Example: I know that he is honest.
(এখানে that he is honest একটি Noun Clause, কারণ এটি I know বাক্যের Object হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।)

Adjective Clause → Principal Clause-এর কোনো Noun বা Pronoun-কে বিশেষণ হিসেবে বর্ণনা করে।

Example: The boy who helped me yesterday is my friend.
(এখানে who helped me yesterday একটি Adjective Clause, যা The boy কে বর্ণনা করছে।)

Adverbial Clause → Principal Clause-এর Verb, Adjective বা Adverb-কে বিশেষণ করে, এবং সাধারণত সময়, কারণ, উদ্দেশ্য, শর্ত, ফলাফল ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ করে।

Example: He went home because he was tired.
(এখানে because he was tired একটি Adverbial Clause, যা কারণ প্রকাশ করছে।)

Subordinate Clause সাধারণত যে Word গুলো দিয়ে শুরু হয়:

Who, Whom, Which, That, When, Where, Why, How, If, Although, As, So that, In order that, Hardly, Scarcely, Barely, No sooner ইত্যাদি।
উদাহরণ বিশ্লেষণ:

who helped me yesterday → এখানে Subject (who) ও Finite Verb (helped) আছে, কিন্তু বাক্যটি একা পূর্ণ অর্থ প্রকাশ করছে না।

অর্থ সম্পূর্ণ করতে হলে Principal Clause যেমন I met the man যুক্ত করতে হয় → I met the man who helped me yesterday.

ব্যাখ্যাঃ নিয়ম অনুযায়ী article an বসেছে প্রদত্ত adjective industrious বসেছে+ subject boy বসেছে + can থেকে life পর্যন্ত বসেছে।

adjective + noun এর মধ্যে word order ভুল।
