Terminator in a Paragraph

Definition:

• The last sentence of a paragraph is called the Terminator because it completes the discussion of the paragraph.

• Bangla: প্যারাগ্রাফের শেষের বাক্য, যা পুরো আলোচনাকে সমাপ্ত করে।

Key Point:

• The Concluding Sentence is the terminator.

• It summarizes the main idea or topic of the paragraph and signals to the reader that the discussion has ended.

Structure of a Paragraph:

1. Topic Sentence: Introduces the main idea.

2. Supporting Details: Strengthen or elaborate the main idea.

3. New Idea Sentence: Introduces a new idea or transition.

4. Concluding Sentence / Terminator: Summarizes and ends the paragraph.

Importance of Terminator:

• Provides a clear and definite idea of the paragraph’s main thought.

• Signals completion of the paragraph.

• Strengthens the paragraph by giving it a conclusive ending.

• Makes the paragraph effective and complete.

Summary:

Concluding sentence = Terminator = Paragraph-ending sentence that wraps up the discussion clearly.

Rule: Simple → Compound Sentence (with purpose clauses):

• Simple Sentence-এ যদি to + verb (যেমন: to succeed, to pass, to win) কোনো উদ্দেশ্য প্রকাশ করে, অথবা in order to ব্যবহৃত হয়, তাহলে compound sentence-এ রূপান্তরের নিয়ম:

  1. in order to + verb থেকে to বাদ দিতে হবে।

  2. বাক্যের প্রথম অংশকে Imperative বা মূল ক্রিয়ার অংশ হিসেবে রূপান্তর করতে হবে।

  3. এরপর and (subject + will) বসিয়ে বাক্যের দ্বিতীয় অংশ যুক্ত করতে হবে।

Examples:

• Simple: Do it in order to get money. → Compound: Do it and (you will) get money.

• Simple: Study hard in order to pass the exam. → Compound: Study hard and (you will) pass the exam.

• Simple: You must work hard in order to succeed. → Compound: Work hard and you will succeed.

Other options:

• ক) She studies and get a scholarship. → Verb form ভুল, grammatical ভুল।

• খ) Study and she gets a scholarship. → “Study” imperative রূপ; বাক্য অসম্পূর্ণ বা অর্থবোধক নয়।

• ঘ) She studied and she get a scholarship. → Verb form ভুল, সঠিক হবে she gets।

• এটি Future Indefinite Passive Voice-এর সঠিক গঠন।

• অর্থ: “আমরা প্রকল্পটি সম্পন্ন করব।” (Passive রূপে)

• বাক্যের tense ও অর্থ দুইটাই সঠিক।

Active → Passive Conversion (Future Indefinite):

• Structure: Object + will be + past participle (V3) + by + subject

• উদাহরণ:

  • Active: She will open the door.

  • Passive: The door will be opened by her.

• ক) The project is completed by us. → Present tense বোঝায়; মূল বাক্যের ভবিষ্যত কাল মিলছে না।

• খ) The project has been completed by us. → Present Perfect Passive; কাজ ইতোমধ্যে শেষ হয়েছে বোঝানো হচ্ছে; Future tense-এ সঠিক নয়।

• গ) The project will completed by us. → ভুল গঠন; “will” এর পরে “be” প্রয়োজন।
